Happy New Year to the family and friends of North Mission Builders!! As 2010 gets fully underway, we would like to take this opportunity to share with you the many projects and events of 2009 that God brought our way.  It was through His direction and intervention that we were able assist and see the completion of these projects.

In July and September, Ms. Charlotte and the Bowmen family moved in their new homes. Denise’s home got a complete make over with the help of volunteers from Alabama.  The newest projects, a home for Rebecca is about two thirds complete and Lily Orchard Baptist Church’s education building is in the dry.

This is the second year that NMB volunteers were able help the City of Moss Point with their summer day camp program and with the restoration of the city parks. It has been a great way to minister to the children of Moss Point. New to our volunteers this summer was the “Beach Outreach” ministry. Bottles of water donated by Jackson County Baptist Association were given out to the people on the beach allowing our volunteers to share Jesus Christ and invite the beachgoers to the local church services.

In May we were able to go to Kirksville Ky., and help with the renovations of an education building for Kirksville Baptist. While we were there, an E3 tornado came crashing through and caused a great deal of damage. We were able to jump right in and assist with some of the clean up efforts. All the while feeling extremely blessed that God kept us safe and protected our home on wheels!

We also know that our Lord our Savior is helping us through another type of storm, one that took us totally by surprise. On November 6th, Sherrill went in the hospital for knee replacement surgery. However, shortly after his release from the hospital the doctor discovered that Sherrill had a blood disorder that resulted in some serious swelling and bleeding in the knee. This lead to 4 more knee surgeries, countless days including Christmas through New Years in the hospital, a serious infection, a bout with pneumonia and six weeks of out patient antibiotic therapy (ends Feb.9TH).  Praise the Lord, Sherrill is finally on the way to full recovery! God was faithful and carried us through each phase of this trying and testing time. We want to thank everyone for all the prayers, visits and phone calls. Special thanks for the love offering. That gift will help with the medical expenses and some peace of mind.

In February, we are going home for a little while for further recovery time. We are looking forward to what God has planned for us in the future. We are already getting inquiries for summer projects and will be ready to do or go wherever God leads. North Mission Builders has always and will continue to be God’s ministry!

Please keep praying for His blessings to and through North Mission Builders!

What a summer!

Giving all praises to our Lord and thanks to all the volunteers our summer program was a huge success! The two Vacation Bible Schools were enjoyed by the young and young at heart. Everyone had a good time.  The children at the day camp had a great time seeing the “Tubies” perform, and doing arts and crafts with the youth.

Denise’s home got an inside makeover with new tile, carpet, and wood flooring. The bathroom was repaired, doorways widened, and new paint through out. Denise and her daughter Leigh were truly amazed with the finished product! Their home is DONE.

We have completed the Bowman’s house! In the midst of all this, we managed to remodel two bathrooms at Parkway Baptist Church. Our newest project, the education building at Lily Orchard Baptist will be an on going project.

Although there is still plenty of work to be done, Sherrill and I are going home to see family and friends. We both need a little rest and some down time. VACATION!!!! YEAH!!!!  We do have some planned visits with some of the churches that have sent volunteers this year. We love renewing fellowship and sharing our ministry with the folks who have touched our lives!

We will, if it is God’s plan, return in the early fall and continue with the rebuild of Mississippi. We hope that you will join in prayer with us about this. Our desire is to do nothing that is not in His perfect will for North Mission Builders.

In the meantime, if you wish to contact us please do so either through email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We’d love to hear from you!

We hope that you will continue your prayerful support of Sherrill and I and North Mission Builders. It is folks like you and our blessed Lord and Savior that keep us going!!!

Thank you for all you do!

Our Spring was Exciting!

It is hard to believe that we have been in Mississippi two years. God has enabled us to finish many projects during that time. With each finished project there is no question that God’s hand has been in all of them.  The smiles that we’ve seen on each face as the words “You can move in now” your home is complete.

Recently, we’ve seen the same excited look on Ms Charlotte’s face as her home was finished a couple of weeks ago. This past week we’ve hung the cabinets in the Bowman home. All that is left is some trim work and painting, and they too will be moving in.

Our spring was exciting! Our all knowing, amazing, awesome, GOD without any doubt had His hand on a recent trip to Kentucky.  The Jackson County Baptist Association had scheduled a group of volunteers to leave in April for a mission trip, but for different reasons it was postponed until Monday May 11th. Sherrill and I were able to go and help with the remodeling of an old sanctuary into an education building, for Kirksville Baptist Church. There were 28 volunteers and our mission was to do inside framing, walls, stairs, and add a second floor.

The question was how that many volunteers can work safely and productively in the area that was to be remodeled. God already knew the need. On Friday May 8th,  an E3 tornado devastated the little community of Kirksville, KY. Over 150 homes were damaged or destroyed, and two lives were lost. Sherrill and I arrived the day before and were there during the tornado only about two blocks from where it touched down. “That was a mind blowing experience and one we hope we never go through again”!

God, not only had volunteers already there, but had others in route to help with the disaster clean up.  Our group divided into two teams, the construction group was able to complete the mission we came to do. The other team went to help the tornado victims. They helped gather personal belongings and clean up debris.  They were able to share with them how our Lord and Savior had helped them rebuild their lives after Katrina.

We are getting ready for our busy summer here in Mississippi! We will be helping with two VBS programs, restoring parks, and helping with day camp. We hope to finish the Bowen’s home and the home of Denise. We also are helping Lilly Orchard Baptist Church with the rebuild of an education and fellowship building, destroyed during Katrina.

We would welcome any or all help! Contact us today to make arrangements for your trip!!

Sherrill and Claudia

March 2009 News Update

WOW, what a way to end the winter!!

We have finally gotten settled in at our new location in Pascagoula. Again, it is quite obvious that God has blessed us with a great church family here at Parkway Baptist Church. The church members go to great lengths to make North Mission Builders and our volunteers feel welcome and at home.

We have really been busy the last couple of months. Our friends from Celebration Church of Buford Georgia came, and God enabled us to finish the vinyl on the outside of Ms. Charlotte’s house. We finished the flooring, the trim, hung interior doors, and the rest of the painting. The smile on Ms. Charlotte’s face was a vision to behold.

The Bowman’s home in D’lberville got their siding put on the very next week when our friends from Fishers, IN.(www.leavener.com ) came down. That was a lot of siding work in a short time. God was gracious and kept the rain away until the job was finished. It rained for three days after that crew left. God is so good!

Our last crew for the month was a couple from Kansas City, Missouri, who almost completely finished Ms. Charlotte’s home. Her cabinets are installed and all the touch up painting is done. She should be ready for move in soon!

All our volunteers are GREAT!! We are truly grateful to all who’ve given their time these past few months. It is your hard work that allows us to complete these projects and get these folks back into their homes and on with their lives. Many times they are better than before Katrina. Thank you, thank you to all!

Our summer youth program is almost booked up. We have only two weeks in July left. We would like to invite you to come and join us as we work hard, laugh a lot, eat well, and PRAISE GOD daily!! Hope to see you soon!

Love Sherrill and Claudia

Youth Summer Camp 2008

Wow, summer is approaching fast and that means it’s time to start planning summer trips for your youth group.  North Mission Builders is again teaming up with the city of Moss Point, Mississippi for the months of June and July.  We would like to challenge your youth this summer with an opportunity to reach families still impacted by the storms on the Gulf Coast.  In Moss Point, relief work continues and we need your help.  The city of Moss Point recreation parks and centers needs help restoring the areas damaged by Hurricane Katrina.  For the month of June and July Moss Point will be providing a day camp for children ages 5-12.  This is a public day camp that has agreed to allow us to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  This can be done through skits, songs, puppet shows, drama and just hanging out and playing with them.  This may be the only time that some of these children are introduced to the message of hope in Christ.

We still need help with many of our construction projects and are inviting you to be a part of what God is doing in Moss Point to rebuild homes, churches and lives.
