About
About Claudia and Sherrill Calloway

Jesus said, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

That's exactly what Claudia and Sherrill Calloway have done. In early 2006, Sherrill felt he was called to start mission work. After talking with his wife about the vision, the couple decided to sell off all of their 11 acre property in Albemarle, North Carolina to ready themselves for a life of mission work. "Giving up the home was the hardest part," said Sherrill, "I built that home by hand and we had planned to retire there."

In May of 2007, the Calloways arrived in Escatawpa, MS and established a partnership with Pastor Dean and the Freedom Christian Fellowship on Highway 613. The Calloways live in the parked motor home on the church property and run North Mission Builders from the driver's seat. The couple is coordinating volunteer groups in the area to help rebuild hurricane damaged homes and spread God's love to the people. "We're trying to do what God's leading us to do," Claudia said sincerely, "Whether we are building homes or churches, the main thing we are doing is sharing God's love and teaching people about Christ. That's the reason we do it... to show God's love to everyone."

This isn't the first time the Calloways have volunteered their time and talents for God's calling. Sherrill has helped rebuild and remodel homes for other people in their home state of North Carolina and even as far north as Vermont through programs at the couple's home church - North Albemarle Baptist Church. "It's hard work. the hours are long, the pay is nothing, but the benefits are out of this world," Sherrill smiled.

It just takes one meeting with the Calloways to experience God's love. Interestingly, Claudia and Sherrill are physically opposites. Sherrill is a big man with monster hands and thick skin, and Claudia is a dainty lady with big blue eyes and a sweet southern accent. But the two come together like red beans and rice to form the unity that embodies God's idea of marriage. While the two seem so hard to picture together, picturing them apart is even more difficult. Claudia and Sherrill share a common dream, finish each other's sentences, and create magic, something greater than themselves, and it's this partnership that is the backbone of their mission organization. They are truly following God's calling.

Recommendations

"I used to say that Sherrill and Claudia left all that they knew and loved to follow God's call in their lives. However, that is not the case. They were simply following their first love, Jesus Christ. I believe the job of the church is to train missionaries. We must seek to develop a group of people who will see their world as a mission field and follow God in His plan to reach that world with the gospel. Sherrill and Claudia embody this perfectly. I have never met a more humble, geniune, and gracious couple. It is my absolute honor to be their brother in Christ, pastor, and friend. If you only have one opportunity this year to involve your church in a service project, I highly recommend North Mission Builders. It will be an opportunity for you to impact the life of another, while God changes your life in the process."

Every now and then you have the privilege of seeing a true "God-thing" and every now and then you get to be a part of that "God-thing". That is the way i feel about North Mission Builders.  Consider selling everything you have, using that money to buy all that you can to equip you for the work the Lord has impressed upon your heart, and then moving to an area where you are strangers.  You have just considered in part what the Lord has done with Sherrill and Claudia in the past year. In the past few months, I have seen the Lord work miracles through North Mission Builders. Not only have they been a huge blessing to our church, our church family, our church building, but now they are moving into the community to help with the rebuilding there.  They need teams to come and help.  They need materials and financial support.  They need you!

In great attitude to God,

Charlie

Charlie is a Vietnam Veteran who is compassionate about following the Lord and helping others through Christian ministry. Charlie made his way to South Mississippi in November of 2007 with a trailer behind his truck and a plan to stay until the Lord said his work was complete. He found the North Mission Builders and has been working with us ever since. This isn't Charlie's first time in South Mississippi, though. Charlie made his trip here in the winter of 2006 to volunteer for Katrina Relief staying at the First Baptist Church of Gautier.
